Visiting Barcelona has been on my bucket list for a long time and this weekend I finally went. Like many kids who were raised on early 2000’s Disney Channel, a dream of mine has been to dance around Barcelona like the Cheetah Girls and I finally did that! Seeing such an iconic city that I has always wanted to visit as an adult is a really special experience. The city is known for its Gaudi architecture, beaches and Catanlunyan pride lived up to all of those expectations! It felt like we were in a different country, especially because of the Catalan language, that sounds and looks more like french than Spanish.
After living in the winter of Madrid for a while, an escape to the warm coast was a great break. A friend that I met on my previous trip to Seville joined me and we tried everything Barcelona had to offer in 3 days. We arrived early Friday morning after traveling overnight on a bus and spent the rest of the day wandering and getting lost (in the good way). We found an indoor market with the most delicious fresh fruit I have ever had and walked through Las Ramblas. My highlights were obviously La Sagrada Familia and Parque Guell, both works by Gaudi. There was so much color and unique design, that I was in silent awe for most of the time. I could have spent hours staring at the ceiling and stained glass windows of La Sagrada Familia, it was so different from any other church I have been in (and I have been in MANY churches in my lifetime).
Sunday we topped off our time by taking the scenic teleferico over the port and to the Miramar viewpoint. By the end of the weekend we had walked over 30 kilometers through the city; leaving me exhausted and fulfilled of all of my Barcelona dreams.
